Chicago Plan Commission Approves Vista Tower
Plans for a $1 billion hotel and condominium tower that would be Chicago's third tallest skyscraper easily won approval on November 19 from the Chicago Plan Commission. At 1,186 feet (361 meters), the glass-sheathed Vista Tower, would become the city's third tallest tower by height.
Master Plan Vision Adds Vertical Density and Extreme Height to Basra
AMBS Architects has revealed a vision for vertical high-rise living in the southern Iraqi city of Basra. Home to a bulk of Iraq’s oil reserves, the area is becoming one of the fastest-growing business centers in the world. The new plan aims to maximize the city’s capacity by 2025.
Chinese Developer Launches Brisbane Apartment Complex
A Chinese developer has launched a AUS$400 million (US$285 million) apartment complex in South Brisbane to be called Brisbane 1, according to The Australian Financial Review. The newspaper reported that the Chinese group purchased the site in a deal worth AUS$46 million (US$33 million).
Work Set to Start on the Long-Delayed Copenhagen Gate Project
The city of Copenhagen has finally approved plans to build two skyscrapers joined by a pedestrian bridge at the entrance to the city’s historic northern harbor. The design unanimously won an international competition in October 2008, but construction has been delayed for economic reasons.
50-Story Naza Tower Launched in Kuala Lumpur
Naza Tower has been proposed in Kuala Lumpur, featuring a unique helical shape that makes the building appear to twist upwards. Each floor plan is similar to the other, but rotates by a few degrees clockwise, allowing a slightly different view of the city’s skyline.
Images Revealed for Brooklyn’s First Supertall Skyscraper
In June of 2014, JDS Development filed new building applications for a tower coming to 340 Flatbush Avenue Ext. in Brooklyn. Now, the first renderings for the SHoP-designed tower have been revealed. The tower will rise 305 meters, claiming the title of New York City’s tallest building outside of Manhattan.

CTBUH recognized an array of projects, technical solutions, and industry leaders driving progress for tall buildings at the 2015 Awards Symposium, Ceremony & Dinner.
Reminder: Submit Projects to CITAB-CTBUH China Tall Building Awards
Submission deadline is Dec. 14. Program will recognize extraordinary contributions to tall building and the urban environment in China.
Council Leaders Meet in New York to Outline 2016 Goals
Group leaders, regional representatives, trustees, committee chairs, and staff from around the world convened to discuss ways to move the organization forward.
2015 CTBUH Research Seed Funding Awarded
Associate Professor Jason Barr was awarded $20,000, sponsored by Sun Hung Kai Properties, to investigate the drivers of tall building construction in China.
Student Design Competition Winners Announced
University of Nottingham’s Tianyi Geng and Teng Li were named the winners of the Plaza Construction-sponsored CTBUH International Student Design Competition.
